Grosvenor Rowing Club, Chester travelled down to London last weekend to row in the Women’s Head of the River Race held on the River Thames.

With competitors from all over the world competing over the 4.25 mile Thames Championship Course from Mortlake to Putney (opposite direction to The Boat Race!) there is now a limit of 420 boats from elite Olympians to novice rowers who are allowed to take part.

Grosvenor had 3 boats competing, 2 Senior Squad  and a Novice entry

The Club had 2 eights finish in the top 80 of this prestigious international event, which is a significant achievement with the quality of competition on show, in a time of 20.34 mins and 21.25 mins respectively

Grosvenor’s first 8, of Leanne Ratcliffe, Lucy Iball, Tanith Allwood, Lowri Stubbs, Charlotte Gill, Laura Champion, Angela Sheldon, Ellen Mitchell, coxed by Sarah Armstrong, had a strong row and   finished in 29th position, 2nd in the Provincial Pennant division, one of the highest positions of recent years.

Grosvenor’s second eight, of Louise Tobias, Lucy Tilston, Siobhan Barnard, Frances Munro, Jess Hulson, Kate Tilston, Helen Rowland, Cathryn Jones, coxed by Tilly Williams, started at 118 and gained 38 places to finish in 80th position. The squad, coached by Chris Hudson, next race this Saturday on the River Dee in the North of England Head

The Grosvenor Novice boat of Helen Morcillo-Docksey, Marta Marquez-Fernandez, Eleanor Minshall, Katja Moir, Charlotte Thornber, Carly Morris, Amanda Dodd, Berni Hunt coxed by James Bennion, finished in 287th  in their first Head of the River.
