• 1869 - Grosvenor Rowing Club was founded to serve ‘the clerks and assistants in the city’.
  • 1888 - Allen Potts, a student from the University of Virginia, whilst rowing for Oxford, he swapped his rowing scarf with a GRC rower. On his return to the USA, Potts was wearing the GRC scarf at a rally when the University of Virginia was picking its colours. Someone saw the scarf and proposed that the University took the same colours, to this day the University share the same colours as GRC.
  • 1889 - The first recorded win for the Club – the Wirral Challenge Cup at Chester Regatta.
